Today I love: Wings Diner
What: Wings Diner is an Asian inspired fried chicken pop up, which is currently installed in Small Bar on King Street. It is run by two friends, Wayne and Kev, who put their heart and soul into the food that they cook.
Their chicken is soaked in buttermilk for twenty four hours and deep fried to make it super crispy and moist. You can choose it in burger, boneless pieces and wings format and then it can be served with a sriracha mayonnaise, a spicy peanut sauce, gravy or their signature hot and sweet Korean sauce.
If meat isn’t your thing, then they do flavoursome vegan alternatives too!
Where: Small Bar, 31 King St, Bristol BS1 4DZ
Why: It is always a delight to eat Wings Diner’s food and I have to admit that I have probably eaten it waaaay too often. My standard order varies between the chicken rice bowl and the two piece deal, but always includes ALL of the sauces. The chicken is super flavoursome, delightfully crispy and almost unbelievably moist. The fries come covered in a dry rub that is sweet, savoury, and salty in perfect balance. I would happily bathe in each and every one of the sauces that you can choose from, but feel free to simply dip your chicken in them instead.
I haven’t had the vegan alternative, but my friends that did try it, said that it was well cooked and tasty.
For those of you that haven’t been already, Small Bar is a craft beer orientated pub that always has a huge range of different beers and ciders for you to try. Not only that, but they also have knowledgable, friendly staff, who are on hand to guide you through making your choice.
How Much: Between £8-12 will buy you a chicken feast.
